On February 27, 2010, the Yerevan American Corner hosted a public lecture about Washington, D.C., conducted by Fulbright 2007-2008 alumna Astghik Shahkhatuni.
Through photos and anecdotes about the memorials, monuments, buildings and statues in the nation's capital, Ms. Shahkhatuni presented the life of the greatest U.S. presidents, influential founding fathers, and other important people and events in the history of the U.S. The participants also learned about the capital of the United States and about its planned layout, emphasizing the importance of the legislature by placing the U.S. Capitol building in the center of the city. Astghik also provided information about the notable people and buildings featured on U.S. currency. She also discussed the richly decorated, colorful rooms in the White House and the impressive interior of the Library of Congress, as well as various places of worship, museums, and parks in the District.
There were around 35 participants, including students from Yerevan State Linguistic University after Brusov and Yerevan State University, U.S. exchange program alumni, and other American Corner patrons.
