American Corner Celebrates July 4th with Quiz Game and Cake

1:00pm 03.07.2010

On July 3, 2010, the Yerevan American Corner organized a public lecture and quiz game entitled “The USA: What We Know.” Fulbright alumna Astghik Shahkhatuni served as featured speaker.

Ms. Shahkhatuni presented numerous facts about the United States, covering many aspects of its geography, history, nature, flora and fauna, national symbols, architecture, culture and traditions, famous people, and political system.

The lecture included quiz questions, which were enthusiastically answered by the participants, who were divided into two groups - those who had been in the U.S. and those who have not yet had the opportunity to travel there. The most active 15 participants were awarded prizes including publications about America, reference books, and small souvenirs.

After the lecture, all the participants including U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Officer (PAO) Karen Robblee and Information Resource Center director Nerses Hayrapetyan headed to the library courtyard to celebrate July 4th, the 234th anniversary of the United States of America’s independence. Ms. Robblee and Hasmik Karapetyan, Director of the City Central Library, cut a delicious cake designed like the US flag. Students and other guests enjoyed the cake and discussed the Corner’s summer activity plans.

More than 35 participants including university students, NGO members, and professionals, attended. They not only gained a lot of new information about the U.S., they also practiced their English skills.
